What is NILD Educational Therapy?

The goal of NILD Educational Therapy is to help students develop tools for independent learning in the classroom and in life. The focus of our individualized interventions are to strengthen the underlying causes of learning difficulties.

NILD Educational Therapy helps students identified with:

  • Learning Disabilities (Dyslexia, Dyscalculia, Dysgraphia)

  • Central Auditory Processing

  • Autism Spectrum Disorders

  • Developmental Delays

  • Attention Deficit Disorder

  • And more…

NILD Educational Therapy® is a true therapy because it is individualized and aims the intervention just above the student’s level of functioning and raises expectations for performance. This reflects the ideas of Lev Vygotsky.

Lev Vygotsky, developed the theory of the Zone of Proximal Development.  He said “…what is the zone of proximal development today will be the actual development level tomorrow – that is, what a child can do with assistance toady she will be able to do by herself tomorrow”.

This intensive therapy program is for children, teens or adults. Sessions are 80 minutes in length with a frequency of two times per week. The sessions include a variety of techniques designed to address students’ specific areas of difficulty and to improve their overall ability to think, reason and process information. Techniques emphasize basic skill areas such as reading, writing, spelling and math and applying reasoning skills within each area. Educational Therapy is based on the neuroscience that proves that the brain can change! Through mediation, and higher-level questioning, students become higher level thinkers. This benefits the student in all areas of life.
